1916 Poland Legion in Austria 2 Heller Legionistom Polskim Imperforate Unused No Gum. Jozef Pilsudski raised the Polish Legion to fight against Russia in the hope of eventually regaining Poland's independence. According to Chapier, these stamps inscribed "LEGIONISTOM POLSKIM" had no postal validity. They were charity stamps intended to promote enlistment in the Polish Legion of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in Galacia. The four values exist perforated and imperforate. A similar stamp, in a smaller format, was issued in 1917.Seller Information
