Item Description
1940's US? WW II Propaganda Poster Stamp Britain Delivers the Goods Unused VLHM 95% OGThis Poster Stamp Presents A Powerful World War II Propaganda Design Featuring A Bold Silhouette Of A Merchant Ship Seen From The Bow, With Its Black Hull And Smoke Stack Standing Out Against A Bright Orange Sky And A Column Of Black Smoke Rising Upward, Symbolizing The Strength And Endurance Of Britain’s Merchant Fleet During Wartime. The Lower Section Displays The Slogan “Britain Delivers The Goods” In Large Black Block Letters Against A Deep Red Ground, A Direct And Confident Assertion Of Britain’s Ability To Maintain Its Lifeline Of Supplies Across The Atlantic Despite German U-Boat Threats. The Graphic Style Is Consistent With Work Commissioned By The British Ministry Of Information And Was Intended To Reassure Allied Nations And Neutral Observers That Britain Could Keep Its Commerce Flowing, Feeding Both Its Population And War Effort. The Stark Color Contrast, Minimalist Silhouette, And Unambiguous Typography Give This Label A Striking Mid-20th-Century Modern Look Typical Of 1940–1942 British Propaganda. Surviving Examples Of This Label Are Known To Have Been Distributed Both Domestically And Internationally, And It May Have Been Part Of A Wider Campaign Promoted Through The British Information Services In New York To Garner Support For Britain Prior To And During The Early Years Of Lend-Lease. The Example Shown Appears Clean With No Visible Tears, Stains, Or Creases. Visible Text (Rewritten In Sentence Form): Britain Delivers The Goods. Country Of Origin: United Kingdom. Year Of Issue: Circa 1940s.
It Is Entirely Possible That This Was Not Printed In The US Because I Cannot Document That At This Point And The Three Countries That Produced These Types Of Stamps Were The United States, Canada, And Of Course Great Britain.
