Item Description
Grade: UngradedUp for auction is a beautiful censored postcard cover from Stalag 2 B, in Hammerstein, Germany from a soldier prisoner of war at the POW camp named Donnay Robert to his wife in Liege Belgium . Postmarked in September 26, 1942, . The camp was evacuated on January 28, 1945 with the POWs marching around what was left of Germany for three months before being liberated by British troops on April 28, 1945. In excellent condition which is unusual for POW mail. Priced to sell. Nice postal history cover. free of postage. Great cancels and POW camp and censorship markings. Very rare to see POW mail this late in the war, note that it had uprated airmail postage, which is very rare during wartime since ship mail was free. Very, very rare to see letters from POWs during WW 2. Also rare to see stamps on outgoing POW mail as camp censors would normally remove it looking for hidden messages.Exceptionally rare piece of postal history.
