Up for auction is a beautiful cover from a Czecho political prisoner in Bayreuth, this was a sub camp of the nearby concentration camp of Mauthausen Gusen in Germany occupied Austria to Czechoslovakia. Konzentrationlager KL Cover. From a Czech political prisoner . Postmarked in March 3, 1943. A total of 85 prisoners from nine countries (among them Russians, Poles, Germans, French, and Czechs), the highest number of prisoners was 63 at one time (November 1944). The prisoners were mostly skilled tradesmen and technicians.Development of an aiming device for remote controlled bombs in the "Institute of Physical Research" (Institut für physikalische Forschung) under the directorship of the physicist Werner Rambauske. A part of the new Bayreuth spinning mill was sectioned off to house the institute and quarter the prisonersPriced to sell. For the serious collector of Judaica and Holocaust related philately this is an exceptional item. Cover is in excellent condition.Mauthausen was a massive concentration camp complex in Austria designed to kill through forced labor the "incorrigible enemies of the reich", it tended to have political prisoners and members of the intelligentsia in it rather than criminals and the ordinary undesirables of the Third Reich (i.e., Jews, gypsies, Slavs, etc.).
