PE. 11 MNHThis Poster Stamp Features Hollywood Star Ginger Rogers, Issued As Part Of The 1940s “Hollywood Star Stamps” Series Produced In The United States. The Design Shows A Full-Length Blue Halftone Photographic Portrait Of Rogers Wearing A Midriff Top And Shorts, With Selective Coloring Applied In Peach To Emphasize Her Outfit. The Border Is Stylized As A Film Strip With Star Motifs At The Corners, Reflecting The Hollywood Theme. Along The Bottom, The Text Reads “Ginger Rogers R.K.O.,” A Reference To Her Association With RKO Pictures, The Studio Where She Rose To Fame Through Her Legendary Dance Partnership With Fred Astaire And Later Her Acclaimed Solo Career, Including Her Academy Award-Winning Performance In “Kitty Foyle” (1940). The Stamp Is Numbered “11” In The Lower Right, Identifying It Within The Series. This Collectible Ephemera Was Marketed To Fans Of Motion Pictures During The Golden Age Of Hollywood. The Fund Operated Under The Motto “We Take Care Of Our Own.” The Stamp Series Was Reportedly Conceived By Actor Jean Hersholt, Who At The Time Of Its Release Served As President Of The Motion Picture Relief Fund. Each Sheet Was Sold For Ten Cents And Contained Either Six, Nine, Or Twelve Portrait Labels Of Popular Screen Personalities Of The Era.
