Item Description

1979 Canada Kaulbach Island 25 Cents Chess Pieces Complete Set/6 Unused Wrinkled and Wavy. Kaulbach Island – named after past owners of the island is peaceful, private and sheltered. The Island is part of the drumlin formations along the south coast of Nova Scotia. Designed by Lois Graboys, the chess motif reflects a favourite passtime enjoyed by many visitors to Kaulbach Island. Six chessmen are shown: castle, knight, bishop, queen, king and pawn. Printed in sheets of 40 and lithographed in brown ink on blue paper, it was line perforated (11.5). 10,000 sets were issued, with 1000 used on first day covers. Thanks to The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC).
