Item Description
Condition: 1997 Bugs Bunny Sc 3138 Imperf 10th Stamp Rare Looney Tunes Cartoon RabbitGrade: Ungraded
1997 Bugs Bunny Sc 3138 Imperf 10th Stamp Rare Looney Tunes Cartoon RabbitThis Mint Never Hinged (MNH) pane of 10 stamps, Scott Catalog number Sc 3138, is the scarce variety of the first stamp issued in the US Postal Service's popular Looney Tunes Series. Rarity and Background: This special variety was created for the USPS "Stampers!" youth program. It is one of the rarest modern US stamps issued, with a production quantity of only 118,000 panes. The standard perforated pane is Scott 3137. Issue Details: Issued on May 22, 1997, in Burbank, California. The stamps have a face value of 32 cents each. The issue honored Bugs Bunny, making him the first cartoon character to appear on a U.S. postage stamp. Unique Characteristics (Imperforate Variety): The pane contains a block of nine stamps on the left and a tenth stamp set apart in the right selvage panel. Stamps 1-9: The die cuts (simulated perforations) penetrate through the stamps and their backing paper, allowing the individual stamps to be peeled off with the liner intact. Stamp 10 (Right Panel): The single 10th stamp is imperforate (lacking die cuts/perforations). This was an intentional feature of the panes produced for the "Stampers!" program. Design: Bugs Bunny is pictured smiling, leaning on an old-fashioned wooden mailbox, holding his signature half-eaten carrot. The right-hand selvage features an enlarged image of the stamp design along with a signature-style graphic reading "Bugs!". This highly sought-after collectible is an excellent addition for topical collectors of animation, cartoon, and pop culture stamps.
