Mafalda is a fictional character in the comic strip of the same name made by the Argentine Joaqu n Lavado, in art Quino, published from 1964 to 1973, very popular in Latin America and Europe.
The series was published in newspapers, magazines and books becoming world famous as well as becoming the subject of extensive merchandising and the protagonist of two series of animated short films and, in 1982, an animated feature film. Three statues have been dedicated to the character, the best known of which is between Defensa and Chile streets in the San Telmo district of Buenos Aires; there is also a commemorative plaque on the building where the author lived when he conceived the character.
