2021 Ukraine, stamp "Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory". Ship. Space, MNH.

The Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory was founded in 1821 by Admiral O.S. Greig as a marine to provide the Black Sea Fleet with maps, transmit accurate time signals to sea vessels and teach astronomical navigation methods. In 1912, it was transformed into the southern branch of the Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory. In 1992, the Mykolaiv observatory became an independent scientific institution of Ukraine and later received the status of a research institute. Currently, the observatory conducts research into the space around the Earth and the bodies of the Solar System, creates catalogs of the positions and proper motions of stars, and provides information support for astronomical research and astronomical instrument construction.
The postage stamp depicts the battleship "Warsaw", a marine chronometer, and the historical building of the observatory. On the envelope: 120-gun battleship "Warshav" of the Black Sea Fleet (launched in 1833).
