Donor blood is a valuable, genuine resource that is extremely important for the rehabilitation and treatment of patients who need blood or its components (transplantation, cancer treatment, complex surgeries, etc.). Before the large-scale Russian invasion, only a third of patients in Ukraine received donor blood on time. In the face of modern challenges, the need for donor blood has increased by 60%. Therefore, today donor organizations actively support the blood system of Ukraine, its timely delivery to the front, and mobilize blood donors to help patients and wounded defenders.
According to statistics, more than 60% of military deaths are associated with blood loss: in most cases this could have been avoided if blood transfusions had been performed in time.
The postal issue “Chance for Life”, initiated by DonorUA (NGO “All-Ukrainian Association of Donors of Ukraine”) on the 10th anniversary of its establishment and which conducts donations under the slogan “Your blood will win!”, aims to draw public attention to the problem of the stable need for donor blood and inspire even more people to participate in the donor movement.
