Item Description
For several years before the launch of Bennett CACHETOONS in 1987, cartoonist Dave Bennett was designing cachets for a stamp store in Washington DC to print, service and sell. Very few unserviced envelopes were returned to him, but this Jim Thorpe envelope was a happy exception.Printed in brown ink on a cream-colored envelope, the cachet shows Thorpe running for a straight-arm touchdown in the colors of the Canton Bulldogs, where he played professional football from 1915 - 1918. The cachet has been hand-tinted by the artist.
This is the last Thorpe FDC left in the artist's archives.
