RARE Forwarders Marking: 3c Rose (#65), tied to folded letter by interesting and well impressed grid, New York Sep 7 cancel adjoins, 1866 dateline on FL, addressed Andover Mass, letter was mailed in Rotterdam, brought in by boat to NYC and mailed by forwarder in September, part-printed interior makes this clear, company's name was E & S & C St Martin, bold handstamp FORWARDED BY BOONEN GRAVES Co New-York, they were located on Fulton Street NYC, two creases, one affects handstamp, ink a little heavy inside, one flap torn (but not the important one w the contemporaneous ms), very showy, VF and scarce.

A small slip of paper accompanies that identifies this as ex-Phillips Postal History auction where it realized $110. Probably worth more than that today.
