In 2001 the small island nation of ALAND issued its SECOND set of WORLD WILDLIFE FEDERATION stamps - this time honoring ALAND's prized coldwater duck, the EIDER.

Cartoonist Dave Bennett pictured his PUFFIN CACHETS mascot waving the ALAND flag and welcoming a pair of EIDERS to shore.

That curled hair visible in the scan above the postmark is NOT on the cover - it surreptitiously snuck onto the scanner bed unnoticed!)

The cover bears two clean strikes of the official ALAND pictorial FDoI handstamp that shows an EIDER's FOOT!. The cachet is handcolored by the artist, and on the reverse it reveals this is cover #1 of only 8 sent to the capital of MARIEHAMN for servicing!
