Item Description
In 2015, after 6 years at the helm of 'FIRST DAYS', the award-winning journal of the American First Day Cover Society, editor Peter Martin stepped down, having improved the journal and leaving his creative mark on the bi-monthly magazine.To thank his many contributors and supporters, he sent out 33 of these FDCs of the 2015 Appomattox Courthouse single from that year's Civil War 2-stamp issue.
The cachet shows Martin standing between Grant and Lee in the room where the surrender was signed, proudly showing off a galley of the latest FIRST DAYS issue that he has produced on his 1860s-vintage typewriter (Martin is a worldwide-known collector of philatelic typewriter-thematics). He appears to be wearing neither Blue nor Gray, but rather a Green uniform as a nod to his Irish background!
This cover is inscribed as #2 of 33 serviced, and is signed at lower right by Peter Martin himself.
