Item Description
Shortly after the set of Legendary Playing Fields stamps were issued, the Ries Chapter of the AFDCS (California's biggest and best club of first day cover collectors) held their annual Summer BBQ - at the home of prominent and popular collector Frederick Langford.This cachet shows Frederick in his baseball uniform about to swing his hot dog skewer-bat, with his distinctive Pasadena home (where he was born and raised) behind him. These covers were given out to the BBQ attendees and very few remained -- but a few more than the dozens of hamburgers and hot dogs that were consumed that day.
The cover was postmarked in Van Nuys, CA on July 15, 2001 and bears the Shibe Park, Philadelphia single from the set of Legendary Playing Fields.
