Ben Franklin famously proposed adopting the Wild Turkey as the United States National Bird and symbol of the new country, and most of the country couldn't tell if he was joking or not. Few had the opportunity to observe Ben strolling the Philadelphia streets with his pet turkey or the would have known he was dead serious!This FDC for the Benjamin Franklin Tricentennial issue of 2006 bears two of the stamps from the quartet of 39¢ singles issued in Philadelphia to honor the great man, as well as a Plate Number Single of the 1956 3¢ Wildlife Conservation issue depicting a Wild Turkey. They are tied by the colorful Official FDoI DCP cancel.
