Item Description

Very nice appearance, with good color and partial gum.   Scott #A8, listed in catalog value $90.00 in the 2021 Scott Classic Specialized.   Stanley Gibbons #8, catalog value €75.00 in 2010. The 1895 Star and Crescent issue is often considered a local, as it was not valid for postage outside of Brunei.  Long recognized by Stanley Gibbons, Scott now lists it in its "Classic" catalog.  A 1973 booklet by famous philatelist Robson Lowe (3rd photo) states that "erroneously, these stamps have been called "locals", but the Star & Crescent stamps are the first general issue of the Brunei Post Office".
