Item Description

Note: this one has a small cut into the perfs near top left, so priced lower than my better ones. But it has a very good appearance otherwise. Scott #A3, catalog value $19.00 (Classic Specialized).   Stanley Gibbons #3, catalog value €16.00 in 2010 (when the pound was worth a lot more). The 1895 Star and Crescent issue is often considered a local, as it was not valid for postage outside of Brunei.  Long recognized by Stanley Gibbons, Scott now lists it in its "Classic" catalog.  A 1973 booklet by famous philatelist Robson Lowe (3rd photo) states that "erroneously, these stamps have been called "locals", but the Star & Crescent stamps are the first general issue of the Brunei Post Office"
