Item Description
A pair of the red samples prepared by a Dr. Eckerlin in Germany around 1930 and printed by Herbst & Illig for the American Bank Note Company as a possible replacement for the usual engraving printing being used. They were found to be unsuitable and the project did not go forward. The backwards design was to ensure that they wouldn't be mistaken for actual postage stamps. For more details, please see the long article in the May 14. 2019, issue of the Canadian Stamp News. An interesting addition to you Admirals Collection! No gum as issued and unhinged.
