Item Description
Approximately 9" x 4"The Autocar Company was founded in 1897 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and its headquarters relocated to Hagerstown, Indiana two years later. It produced both automobiles and trucks. An innovative company, it was the first to put the steering wheel on the left-hand side, the first American vehicle to use a shaft drive, and the first to incorporate a circulating oil system. It also invented the porcelain-insulated spark plugs, the rights to which it later sold to AC Champion.
The company is still around today after passing through the White Motor Company and Volvo as subsidiary brands. Today it produces four models of heavy-duty, custom-engineered trucks.
In the days before ballpoints, rollerballs, and felt/nylon tips, business writing was done with fountain pens. Fountain pen ink often took a while to dry, and desk blotters were used to remove the excess and prevent smearing.
In nice shape.
