The Claude C. Ries Chapter of the AFDCS celebrates every Spring with a Luau-themed get-together and here are two covers that celebrated the event in 2015 and 2019. The Poi and Pineapple Smoothies flow freely, a good time is had by all, and a free event cover always celebrates our camaraderie with a tie-in to one of the current stamp issues

In 2015 it was the Civil War Sesquicentennial stamp issue commemorating the Battle of Five Forks in 1865.  We were led into battle by our brave double-fisted hostess and Silverware Battalion commander, General Alvetia Smith!  This cover was cancelled at the LAX Airport Station, a half-day's march from General Smith's headquarters, on May 31, 2015.

Four years later, General Smith had retired, and had become a full-time Mermaid!  2019's cover bears two of the then-recent Coral Reef postcard rate stamps, as well as a concordant 15¢ stamp from 1980 featuring Brain Coral.  This cachet - saluting the ninth annual incarnation of the Ries Luau - features Ms. Smith - our mermaid hostess for the event - displaying her prized Coral Pineapple, and joined by the ever-present roast pig mascot of the Luau as he snorkels up for a closer look!
