Rare 1686 edition of Reinhold Curicke's massive "Der Stadt Dantzig historische Beschreibung" on the history of Danzig, bound together with Georg Curicke's (his son) work on the Coronation and historic entrance of August the Other, King of Poland. The Danzig history was originally a four-volume monograph published in 1645 (see the Wikipedia entry for Reinhold Curicke); his son published this, the first illustrated work, after his father's death. Contains a large, fold-out map of the city of Danzig as well as numerous illustrations, of which I have photographed many. The second work, "Freuden-Bezeugung der Stadt Dantzig ueber die Hocht-Erwunschte Koenigliche Wahl und darauf Glueckliche-erfolgte Kroenung Des Durchlauchtigsten / Grossmachstigsten Fuersten und Herrn Herrrn Augusti des Andern, Koenig von Pohlen" (printed 1698) is also well illustrated, with an equally large fold-out illustration of the royal procession. There is some scattered foxing (more in the 2nd work), some separation and tearing (as per scans), especially to the fold-out illustrations, but also some marginal cutting / tearing here and there. The blindstamped leather binding is worn and chipped, but all and all this is in good condition and consistent with a book this age. The Danzig history contains 432 pages plus index, titles, and a page of corrections. The Coronation work contains 54 pages plus titles and corrections. The overall size is quarto, dimensions of ca 23x36cm and a thickness of ca 6cm. This is an amazing opportunity for the collector of the Danzig / Poland areas. Check the auction record: there are no recent appearances of the Danzig history, and the small coronation work alone sold for $2껎 at Christie's in 2009.
