Item Description

This is the 1935 special printing imperforate National Parks series 4-cent Mount Rainier plate block for sale. Clean margins, fresh bold color, and hinged -- not that it really matters on an issue that was originally produced and not gummed. After Postmaster James Farley offered a unque sheet to President F. Roosevelt, collectors were just a little upset at the creation of such a rarity. The decision was made to reprint the 1934 parks series in imperforate sheets but without gum. The U.S. Post Office Department then agreed to have any purchases sent to them gummed, which is why some have gum and others do not.
