Item Description

This is the New York City business postal cover mailed to East Bloomfield, New York, attorney possibly at the outset of the American Civil War. The cover depicts a striking New York SEP 14 CDS as well as a reverse (or negative) cross -- both tying the stamp to the over. The cover does seem to have been soiled by perhaps a coffee spill along the left edge and there is some minor opening damage to the reverse flap probably from opening to extract the contents (which are no longer with the cover). The reverse of the cover is clean.

Of particular note, the return addess on Broad Street predates what Americans have come to know as Broadway.
