Immediately post-World War II English-Latvian Dictionary published for Prisoners of War / Latvian Refugees / (DP) Displaced Persons, by John Hunter Blair and published by T. Darzins, Halle Westfalen, Latvian Camp, Germany.
These types of guides were created thanks to an initiative by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt's initiative, the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, founded November, 1943.
Staple bound, 56-pages in excellent condition. Signed on the frontispiece by (presumably) the original owner, 'K. Anderson.'

In the summer of 1945 the Latvians in West Germany were situated in over more than 300 refugee camps maintained by the UNRRA (United Nation Relief and Rehabilitation Administration – founded in 9 November 1943). Refugees were officially referred to as the displaced persons (DP). Publishing of books was motivated by objective factors, even though huge difficulties, regarding the lack of juridical press law and censorship was in the way. Exceptionally active was Latvian literary life, the need of fiction literature stimulated this kind of book publishing rates. During this period new fiction literature authors works were published, interwar Latvia's classic's works were re-issued and world literature authors' works were translated and published. Propaganda and religious literature also took an important part in book publishing. The goal of publishers was to spread information and to help to connect for scattered refugees.
