Item Description
Back when the USPS was willing to pay licensing rights to the International Olympics Committee, they issued this $2.90 Express Mail stamp that featured the Olympic Rings.They won't play that game any more!
This FDC, which is franked with a plate number single, features a handcolored cachet of a bald eagle showing off his Olympic T-shirt while competing in the 50 yard mail delivery dash. The cover is cancelled with the FDoI pictorial postmark that was available on site at the First Day of Issue ceremony in San Diego (the first FDoI ceremony that my dad and I attended together!)
