Item Description
The Faroes Islands postal administration, in 1997, illustrated 4 of the over 300 species of mushrooms that are found on this rocky archipelago in the North Sea. The stamps pictured are the Waxcap, the Yellow Waxcap, the Snowy Waxcap and the Parrot Waxcap. Waxcaps really like the Faroes!The handcolored cachet, done on a sage-colored handmade envelope, shows a small puffin who has discovered that Waxcaps make good emergency umbrellas, as he sits among a tiny grove of the colorful fungi!
This cover bears two nice strikes of the official Faroes First day of Issue cancel of February 17, 1997 that depicts - surprise! - some Waxcaps! The reverse carries the Puffin Cachets logo, and shows that this is cover #1 of only 8 covers sent to the Faroes for servicing.
