Item Description
In 1999 the EUROPA theme was NATURAL WATERWAYS for all the EUROPA members' postal services to interpret in their own way. The FAROES ISLANDS chose to show two of the country's most famous and popular WATERFALLS - SVARTIFOSSUR and FLODARAFOSSUR.Cartoonist Dave Bennett pictured his PUFFIN CACVHETS mascot at the bottom of one of the waterfalls, dressed and outfitted to be enjoying a natural shower!
(That curled hair visible in the scan above the postmark is NOT on the cover - it surreptitiously snuck onto the scanner bed unnoticed!)
The cover bears two clean strikes of the official FAROES pictorial FDoI handstamp that shows the cover's EUROPA pedigree. The cachet is handcolored by the artist, and on the reverse it reveals this is cover #1 of only 7 sent to the capital of TORSHAVN for servicing!
