Historical Context Following the invasion of Yugoslavia by Axis forces in April 1941, Italy occupied a significant portion of its territory. The Italians established a specific military occupation zone known as the "Zona Occupata Fiumano-Kupa" (Occupied Zone of Fiume-Kupa). For postal purposes within this zone, Italian authorities overprinted existing stocks of Yugoslavian definitive stamps featuring King Peter II.
