Item Description
France, Scott #1465, used (o), 1976, French Art Series, The Venus of Brassempouy; The Venus of Brassempouy is a fragmentary ivory figurine from the Upper Palaeolithic period, apparently broken from a larger figure at some time unknown. It was discovered in a cave at Brassempouy in the extreme southwestern part of France in 1892. About 25,000 years old, it is one of the earliest known realistic representations of a human face; 2 francs, dark brown and yellow, perforated: 12, no watermark, engraved, Scott 2019 catalog value: 60¢, nicely centered, quarter circular, black-inked, single-rimmed, socked-on-the nose cancellation, with partial mailing details, on the top left corner and well away from central image, sound back, pencilled identification marks, non-Scott, on the back, good perforations; centering and image free cancels warrant a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch' offer; the stamps you see will be the ones you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.30 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.58 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society (APS) member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
