Item Description
French unused postage stamps issued in honor of Charles de Gaulle. (1971) on the occasion of the first anniversary of the death of Charles de Gaulle. The set consists of four stamps, which are connected and have a common vignette with the inscription "HOMMAGE AU GENERAL DE GAULLE" ("In memory of General de Gaulle"). Each stamp has a face value of 0.50 French francs. The Cross of Lorraine, which is depicted on the central vignette, was the emblem of the Free French Forces during World War II, when General de Gaulle accepted it on July 1, 1940.
