The city of Vestmannaeyjabaer (it's a little easier in English: Westman Island Town) was 100 years old in 2019. The city that was nearly buried by a volcano in the 1970s is today a picturesque center of fishing on Heimaey, a rocky island off the southwest coast of Iceland. Iceland Post honored Vestmannaeyjabaer with a large and lovely stamp in February of 2019.Vestmannaeyjabaer is also home to the GREATEST CONCENTRATION OF PUFFINS IN THE WORLD!
In the cachet, the Puffin Cachets mascot, wearing the fisherman's hat seen on 80% of the population of Vestmannaeyjabaer, stands on the island holding the city flag of Vestm . . . oh, you know where! The main island of Iceland can be seen in the distance.
This cover received two nice strikes of the official pictorial First Day of Issue cancel struck in Reykjavík on February 7, 2019. The reverse of the cover shows that this is cover #3 of only 11 made.
