Item Description
Germany, Scott #207, used (o), 1923, Inflation Era, 4000 marks, lithography, watermark: networks (Scott #126), waffein (Michel Wz2), perforated: 14½x14, violet, Scott 2019 catalog value: $1.50. Off-centered, classic, full circle, single-rimmed, black-inked, broken-up, socked-on-the-nose cancellation with mailing details over the main part of the stamp; sound back, short corner perforation at lower right corner when viewed from the front, otherwise good perforations; valid cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a bait-and-switch' offering. The stamp you see will be the stamp you receive. At catalog value used at $1.50 versus mint at 25¢, you have to be concerned about a forged cancel. However, one feature of this stamp lead to a conclusion that it is an authentic postally used cancel in the period of issue – the stamp is center cancelled with complete mailing details; forgers typically use non-distinct, offset cancellations that lack mailing details so that the cancel device can be used over and over. I have been examining forged cancellations for years in the German inflation period and in the Italian, between the wars issues, and I believe it is safe to conclude that this stamp has been authentically used in the period of issue.
Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.30 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.58 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
