Item Description
The 1999 pane of 20 Insects and Spiders with its detailed and colorful depiction of Arachnids and their 6-legged cousins, blew collectors minds when it was revealed that the depictions were NOT photographs, but incredibly hi-resolution digital artwork!Offered here is one of the last remaining Bennett Cachetoon pop-up FDCs for that issue, bearing the stamps depicting the Spinybacked Spider, the Periodical Cicada, the Bombardier Beetle, and everyone's favorite - the Dung Beetle! All four are nicely struck with the official pictorial First day of Issue cancel.
The cachet (advertised in 1999 as being '18% larger than the regular Pop-Up!') depicts ALL 20 of the insects and spiders from the pane, caricatured by way of a pun on their names (e.g. the Dung Beetle is peeking out from inside an outhouse, the Bombardier Beetle is riding a bomb, etc.).
All 20 Genus Arthropodas are identified on the back flap. (for you sharp-eyed bidders, the 4 stamp critters on the stamps franking this cover, are marked here with red arrows - which do NOT appear on the cover you will receive)
This is the last example in captivity (in our archives) . . so GO BUGGY!
