Item Description
Great Britain, Scott #MH213 (Deegam 250.2.1)(Stanley Gibbons #Y1689)(Complete Machin Stamp Catalog #E28)(Michel #1475CS)(Yvert&Tellier #1710), 1993, used (o) Machin, Queen Elizabeth II, stamp is from the third Machin period of issue which began in April 1993 with the appearance of the elliptical/syncopated oval perforation inserts, typically on the right and left sides of the stamp, down from the middle; they were introduced to deter forgeries; the elliptical perforations began in 1993 and continue on until the end of the Machin series in 2023, however a convenient end-break in this period occurs with the introduction of electro-mechanical engraving in 1996, which gives us a noticeably different face image to the Machin stamps, so this third period would be Syncopated but pre-EME; (the perforations change, but the image remains the same as the previous periods) occurring after the pre-decimal and Perf-4 Sided periods, but before the EME, Wavy Line, and Matrix periods; 25 pence, Scott (salmon), Stanley Gibbons/CMSC (rose red), Deegam (salmon pink), Harrison photogravure, issued: October 26th, 1993, perforated: 14¾x14¼ with syncopated/elliptical double perforation space quarter way from the bottom on left and right sides, phosphorus coated paper (PCP), border portions of the stamp shows dull gray under UV light, pre-electromechanical engraved {pre-EME}, from a sheet, customer torn of all four sides, tear, tear, tear, tear {TTTT}, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 90¢, very slightly off-centered (extremely fine), which is very good for the issue as most stamps of the issue are considerably off-centered, distinct and crisp, black-inked, horizontal duplex cancel, from left to right, a half circular, single-rimmed socked-on-the-nose cancel with almost complete mailing details from the left border to stamp middle leading to a series of parallel lines across the remainder of the stamp {(LAN)CASHIRE, (1)7:15PM, (2)2 FEB, (1)996, XXXXH 1 LAKES}, mailed from Lancashire at Post Office #1 in the Lake District, probably on February, 22nd, 1996 and lifted from the post box and cancelled at 5:15PM in the afternoon, sound back, good perforations, centering and mailing details cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch; the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.70 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.78 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
