Stamp Information
Year of Issue: 1884
Featured Personality/Theme: Queen Victoria
Historical Context
This 10 Shillings Blue was part of the high-denomination issues of the late Victorian era, printed in response to growing demands for large-value stamps in postal and fiscal operations. The 1884 SG183 was printed in bold blue with an ornate design surrounding Queen Victoria's profile. Its high value restricted it mostly to official or commercial use. Perfins like “RB” (likely from a registered business or bank) were used to prevent internal theft, adding to the item’s postal and commercial history significance.
Shipping & Handling
All items are shipped via Registered Priority Mail (Prioritário Leve) with full tracking. Each package includes a CN22 customs declaration form, marked as Postal Document – No Declared Value, in order to minimize the chance of extra duties or taxes.
Customs Notice
Please note that international mail may occasionally be held at customs for inspection. This is a normal part of the process and usually resolved with the recipient’s cooperation. We kindly ask buyers to follow the tracking number provided so they can assist with any local clearance if needed.
Condition
Used example with clear perfin “RB” punched through the Queen’s portrait. London CDS cancel (circular date stamp), well-struck and readable. Color remains strong for age. Paper shows typical soiling and surface wear. Slight toning and rough edges, especially upper left corner.
Collector’s Note
Perfinned high-values like this are sought by both postal historians and perfin specialists. The combination of “RB” perfin and a dated London CDS enhances this example’s collectibility, offering a unique window into business postal usage of the late 19th century.
