Greenland Revenue 1939 Sitdlimat Sparemaerker Saving Stamp BLOCK 25 øre Blue #1 VF-NH. Nelson (1983) CV $140.00++.

_saving stamps were sold in greenland over a period of 50 years. From the start in 1927-28 pakke-porto stamps were used. They were placed in saving books and cancelled with the avane cancellers. When the pakke-porto stamps were discontinued in 1938, a new scheme, operated by kgh was begun. Special stamps were issued, in 1939 and in 1962. These  'sitdlimat sparemaerker' were placed in special saving books as before. When the books were full, the amount could be redeemed. Remainders of danish christmas seals were also used as saving stamps in egedesminde and sukkertoppen. From 1957 a school program supplemented the general program. At that time, a special series of stamps was issued: 10 different saving stamps illustrating the historic development of greenland. The general program was discontinued in 1967 and the school program in september 1976._
