In 1843 Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was a professor of English at Harvard University . . where he actually had a young redhead from Ohio who be destined for greatness.That student was young Rutherford B. 'Rud' Hayes, who would go on to become our 129th president, and unfortunately NOT a poet!
Here is a FDC for the 2007 Longefellow issue, in combo with Hayes on a Plate Number Single of the 1923 11¢ showing his portrait, and the 1¢ Longfellow entry in the Famous American Poets set of 1940. The cachet shows Professor Longfellow pointing out the slightly flawed Iambic Pentameter in the 'rhyme' that Hayes has written on the blackboard!
