Item Description
The Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity (commonly known as the 'FIJI's) holds an annual Alumni Homecoming Event called "Pig Dinner" (named that way for reasons I am not allowed to divulge, good FIJI that I am).This hand-colored cachet was created to adorn covers that were handed out to my classmates, as at that particular Pig Dinner we celebrated the 25th anniversary of our initiation into the fraternity. The cover was cancelled on April 5, 1997 at the Delaware, Ohio Post Office, a mere three-minute walk from our stately fraternity house!
Our chapter of the fraternity is one of the very oldest at OHIO Wesleyan University, and the Snowy Owl is our mascot -- hence the franking combining an Ohio Statehood Plate number single with a pair of owl stamps, which also bear a plate number. And the envelope is purple because . . . that's our Fraternity Color! So much concordance!
You will be able to call this cover your own WITHOUT having to go through strenuous and degrading initiation rites . . like SOME of us did!! :o/
