Historical Context This stamp is part of the 1893 Provisional Government issue, created following the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy led by Queen Liliʻuokalani. The issue was produced by overprinting remaining stocks of Kingdom of Hawaii stamps with "Provisional GOVT. 1893". On this stamp, parts of the overprint are visible within the cancellation.
