Item Description
James Hazen Hyde (1876-1959) was the father of Henry B Hyde (1915-1997) James was the son of H .B. Hyde Sr., who founded the Equitable Life Insurance Co. James H Hyde inherited majority shares in the company and in 1904 was involved in the first stock market scandal of the 20th century. He resigned and fled to France. He gave birth to Henry in Paris in 1905 who grew up in Versailles. James entertained famed British spy Biffie Dunderdale and was said to be the model for James Bond. In WW II, Henry served the OSS from 1942 in Algiers & London, having been recruited by Allen Dulles... he organized American espionage activities in southern France (Operation Penny-farthing). When the war ended, he replaced Allen Dulles in Geneva returned to the US in 1947 to practice law. Hyde served as CofS for Major General William "Wild Bill" Donovan who was the architect of OSS & is called the father of the CIA. This collection consists of detail history and 50 postcards that James Hyde sent to his son as they both (separately) travelled about Europe in the 1920s, when Henry was only 5-7 years old. Every card is autographed by James. The cards themselves picture France, Spain and Switzerland from the 1920s.Seller Information
