Item Description
This unaddressed cover with a space-themed Western silk cachet was issued in 1979 to commemorate the 'History of Space - First Men in Space.'The cover was franked by a 10-cent Skylab issue of 1974, Scott 1529, a 4-cent Project Mercury issue of 1962, Scott 1193, and a one-cent Thomas Jefferson coil issue of 1968, Scott 1299.
The Downey, California postmark is a pictorial featuring two space vehicles that reads 'Downey, Home of the Space Shuttles 1969-1979.' Only the Skylab issue is tied to the envelope.
The cachet (Western A22) pictures astronauts Gagarin, Glenn, and Shepard with Vostok-1 and the Mercury Capsule.
The backflap is partially sealed and intact. No contents or backstamps.
