Item Description

This First Day Cover was mailed from Hollyrood, Newfoundland to Hyattsville, Maryland on June 17th, 1939, franked by a 5-cent violet blue Royal Visit issue, Scott 249, tied by a Hollyrood 'Royal Landing' double circle date stamp.

The cachet depicts KGVI and Queen Elizabeth and reads:
'Their Majesties
King George VI, Queen Elizabeth
June 1939
Visit Newfoundland
First Day Cover.'

The backflap is intact and adhered to a stiffener inside the envelope. The stiffener is a stamp dealer's ad (Cullen's Stamp & Coin Shop, Washington, D.C.). No contents or backstamps.

Light horizontal or vertical lines in the images are scanner artifact !
