Item Description
This Patriotic Cover was mailed by a merchant Father at Hudson, New York to his Corporal Son serving with Company K, the 14th Volunteer Regiment then at Washington, D.C. in September of 1861. The cover was franked by a 3-cent dull red George Washington issue of 1861, Scott 65, a margin copy with guide line, that was tied to the cover by a barred circle killer. This is a relatively early use of this issue. The embossed cachet is a blue 5-point star depicting George Washington. The outline of the large star includes tiny 5-point stars.
Below George is a private embossing of a corner card that reads:
'Books and Stationery
E.P.L. Elmer
129 Warren Street
Hudson NY.'
Cut open right so minimally reduced, the backflap is sealed and intact. No contents or backstamps.
The cover in the scan is the one you will receive. Light lines in images are SCANNER ARTIFACT!
Shipping always combined.
