Item Description
Iceland Post had a series that spanned several years in which they issued beautifully engraved souvenir sheets celebrating 'The Day of the Stamp', promoting stamp collecting and issued each year in October - the Icelandic 'Stamp Collecting Month'!This handcolored cachet, on a sand-colored handmade envelope, depicts the Puffin Cachets mascot as Captain of a ship (like the one shown on the stamp), but with stamp-shaped sails bearing the design of the Icelandic flag!
The souvenir sheet received two nice strikes of the official pictorial First Day of Issue cancel from Reykjavík that depicts a sailing ship.
This cover was cancelled on October 7, 1999 . . and the reverse shows - along with the Puffin Cachets logo - that this was cover #1 of only 6 covers sent to Iceland for servicing!
