Item Description

On a rocky, volcanic island that was nearly denuded of trees as far back as the Vikings era, the country of Iceland in 1907 embarked on an ambitious plan to re-forest the nation.  100 years later, the success of that plan is now visible in several beautiful national forests resplendent with spruce, birch, poplar and rowan trees!

To observe the centennial of the 1907 Conservation Act, Iceland issue two stamps, in 10 and 60 kronur values. This cover bears the two stamps, and two nice cancels of the pictorial First Day of Issue postmarks from the capital of Reykjavík on April 20, 2007 - Earth Day of that year!

That cachet shows the mascot of Puffin cachets watering his newly-planted sapling, against a background of the two 1957 Icelandic stamps that honored the 5oth anniversary of the reforestation plan - and which are my very favorite Icelandic stamps!

The reverse bears the Puffin Cachets logo and shows that this is cover #13 of only 15 made!
