Historical Context In the final days of World War II in Italy, as Allied forces advanced and German control collapsed, local anti-fascist partisan groups known as the Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale (C.L.N. - National Liberation Committee) took control of many towns and cities. To re-establish postal services, these local C.L.N. committees often seized existing stocks of stamps from the fascist Italian Social Republic (RSI) and overprinted them to signify the change in authority. This set was issued by the C.L.N. of Ponte Chiasso, a town on the Swiss border, by overprinting the RSI's "Monuments Destroyed" series. Combined Shipping We offer combined shipping.
