This is a cinderella protest poster stamp highlighting the dropping of the atomic bomb in world war ii. The first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb, the enola gay, was piloted by united states army air force colonel paul w. Tibbets and targeted hiroshima, japan. A second bomb was later dropped on nagasaki. This led to the surrender of japan to the allies. An originally designed stamp created to commemorate this event in 1995 was rescinded by the united states postal service after protests from the japanese government in 1994. This original stamp denominated 00.
This poster stamp was issued to protest this decision to rescind the original design and was not printed by the usps and is not valid for postage. It was privately produced by spinx in 1995 and is in mint, never hinged with dry gum condition with a straight edge at the bottom. It would make an interesting addition to any collection of wwii or united states history or cinderella stamps.
