Item Description
In 2001, the Channel Islands nation of Jersey issued a handsome set of stamps depicting fire trucks used on the small island, and also celebrated 100 years of the capital city's Fire Brigade.This handcolored FDC shows the Puffin Cachets mascot heroically hosing down the fire started in a common kerosene lamp by a now-disgruntled Jersey Cow. The Puffin stands atop a Tilly manual Fire Wagon from the middle of the 19th Century!
This cover, made from marbled light red paper, bears 4 of the 6 stamps in the set, and received 2 strikes of the official Jersey First Day of Issue cancel of September 25, 2001. The reverse shows that this is cover #5 of only 10 sent to Jersey for franking and cancelling.
