Item Description

In 1998 the English Channel island of JERSEY issued their SECOND set of stamps (in a years-long series) featuring SEA BIRDS and WADERS that call the British protectorate their home.

This FDC features three of the 6 stamps in the set, including the high-value stamp of £1.

Cartoonist Dave Bennett pictured the three birds on the stamps franking this FDC - a SANDWICH TERN (holding a sandwich, naturally), the RAZORBILL (holding a razor - did you expect something else?) and the CRESTED GREBE, in the act of combing his stylish head feathers!).

The cover bears two clean strikes of the official JERSEY FDoI handstamp that depicts another bird - the AVOCET. The cachet is handcolored by the artist, and on thereverse it reveals this is cover #1 of only 6 sent to Jersey for servicing!
